SC | One year on, another successful trip to Orava and another Round 4 place
The Slovnaft Cup brought the Šošoni back to the Orava region for the second year in a row. In Round 3, Žilina travelled to face TJ Slovan Magura Vavrečka, whose players not only organised a memorable matchday but also put in an impressive performance throughout the opening half-hour.
The hosts held firm until the 35th minute, when Timotej Hranica finally broke the deadlock. Captain Samo Ďatko doubled the lead before the break. Sandro Narimanidze struck shortly after the restart, Fabian Bzdyl added a fourth, and Dani Homet completed the scoring late on.
The Šošoni ultimately sealed a 5:0 victory and booked their place in the Round 4 of the Slovnaft Cup.
Head coach Vladimír Veselý made several changes to his lineup compared to the previous cup round in Divina, giving some players a rest. As a result, Johan Albin, Ben Adjei and Abdul Majid all made their first starts for the first team in starting XI.
The Šošoni needed some time to find their rhythm against a spirited Vavrečka side, which defended bravely in front of a crowd of nearly 2,000 spectators. The breakthrough finally came in the 35th minute when Timotej Hranica finished after being played through by Michal Svoboda's pass. Just before the break, captain Samo Ďatko doubled the lead, with debutant Johan Albin registering his first assist in yellow-green.
Žilina struck again almost immediately after the restart. Substitute Sandro Narimanidze curled a stunning effort into the top corner from distance to make it 3:0. Fabian Bzdyl added a fourth shortly after coming off the bench, finishing calmly after a pass from Ďatko. The final goal arrived in the 88th minute when Dani Homet found the net to complete a convincing 5:0 victory and seal the Šošoni’s place in the Round 4 of the Slovnaft Cup.
The draw for the next round will take place at a later date, with the ties currently scheduled for 14 October.
